Starting a Goliath Gang Guide 3/3; Mission analysis

So, last part of the guide, is a look into how the Goliaths perform in different missions.
If you get the option, here are some of the 18 (at time of going to press) missions that will benefit you the most. I’ve tried to think ahead to how the above will benefit you in these missions.

Sneak preview - Goliath get a bit of a raw deal here.
Of the 8 missions when you pick one of the scenarios with attackers and defenders, I’ve interpreted that when the enemy picks the scenario and you are defending
- 4/8 times in which you are defending you’ll be worse off
- 2/8 times being the defender it will be neutral benefit
- 2/8 instances of being the defender are good for you. (Gauntlet + Caravan Heist)
When you pick a scenario as the attacker
- 6/8 times in which you are attacking you’ll be worse off
- 1/8 times being the attacker will be of neutral benefit
- 1/8 times being the attacker are good for you. (Ambush)

So not Mr Math-hammer but…62.5% of these missions are not in your favour, 18.75 are neutral and 18.75% are good choices.
Generally then DO NOT PICK THE ATTACKER/DEFENDER FORMAT MISSIONS UNLESS IT IS AMBUSH. Ok? Only 3 instances are going to go your way

For the other 10 missions where there are no attackers/defenders.
- 2/10 are a bad choice (Claim the spire and Escape the Pit)
- 5/10 are a neutral choice and depend on your playstyle (Stand off, Border Dispute, Spook Harvest, Arhcaeo hunters, Monster hunt)
- 3/10 are a good choice (Downtown dust-up, Shoot-out, In the dark)
Math hammering again and 20% bad, 50% neutral, 30% in your favour
Generally if you get to pick a mission and you want to do a scenario, pick the above.

Here’s my analysis.
Red for don’t do it!
Neutral grey for ‘it depends on you to win based on how you deploy/move/prioritise/play the mission’
Green for ‘this is gonna be fun’

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Stand Off - Neutral choice - Nice and simple deathmatch
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Looters as Defenders- Neutral choice, the enemy needs to come to you. Hide those boxes and your gangers and then unleash hell. However your reinforcements are never going to support in time.
Looters as Attackers - Bad choice, no thanks! A smart enemy will place these up high, and shoot you apart before you get there.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ambush as Defenders – Bad choice, the savvy enemy will stay at range, and lock you down so you can’t get off board.
Ambush as Attackers – Good choice! Ideal for Goliath this missions close range deployment should mean all your short range weaponry and combat skills can take the enemy down fast.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Border dispute - Neutral choice - This can go either way as it’s all about placement of the relic for both teams. You can turtle up around your own relic, or you can gun for theirs. If you turtle up you will get shot apart, but then the enemy relic could be nice and close. If you can, get priority and pick the terrain that benefits you most, and inhibits them, take the high ground side so they can’t but don’t deploy there!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sabotage, Rescue mission, Prison break as Defenders – Bad choice – low initiative and movement mean that you may not spot people close to the target till it’s far too late. Often intelligence/initiative is used for certain benefits.
Sabotage, Rescue mission, Prison break as Attackers – Bad choice - low movement and higher enemy initiative will likely mean you get spotted fast when you can’t get into cover fast enough
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Claim the spire Bad choice! You want to climb? As Goliath? Are you mad?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The gauntlet as Defenders – Good choice, being able to pop out near the enemy will definitely benefit Goliath close range fun.
The gauntlet as Attackers – Neutral choice, still close range is good, strength will help with close range stuff but Initiative may also be a big factor
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Last stand as Defenders – Neutral choice. A test of staying power, this is good for Goliath gangs as we get to linger with high toughness but ultimately turtling up to last the longest doesn’t make for great games.
Last stand as Attackers – Bad choice. Having to schlep up the board to combat the enemy isn’t going to play well, and reinforcements are going to have the same issue!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Escape the Pit Bad choice! You want to carry and climb with stuff? As Goliath? Are you jacked-mad?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Downtown dust up Good choice! The ability to deploy close to the other gang means that you can 1 on 1 them all, any hivers that get carried along for the ride can’t hurt you as easily as they can the other gangs (normally)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Shootout Good choice! Good cool and getting into close range works in our favour, shame about the initiative for rapidly drawing our guns (but Goliath don’t worry about that right?)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Caravan heist As Defenders- Good choice. Having the enemy need to get to you is a good thing, hide behind the caravan and jump out at anyone that approaches, reach the other side. Main issue here will be slowing the caravan down (it says move it up to 6inches each time) to let your guys catch up with it
Caravan heist as attackers – Bad choice. Climbing and jumping are not the G’s strong point, we could ambush pretty well, but ranged parties galore will win this race.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Spook Harvest Neutral choice. Don’t do drugs kids .Tricky one, it’ll take you ages to harvest the spook with poor intelligence, but you’ll resist its effects more easily (if you want them to). Once you’ve got said power you’re more likely to fail the willpower checks too, and the only real benefiting power is the quickening one.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In the dark – Good choice, limiting the enemies ranged options will definitely benefit Goliath.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Archaeo hunters - Neutral choice, apart from having to use intelligence for the Automata, this is basically a standoff mission with some extras
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Monster hunt – Neutral choice, this could go either way but playing it out I assume Goliath will trigger the monster, you place a counter down when you get a flesh wound and early game Goliath are more likely to get flesh wounds, so will attract the monster far easier to their end, and likely it will spawn nearer to the Goliath gang. This isn’t necessarily a good thing as high strength attacks will knock the Goliath down fast, and so Goliath have to hope to take it down equally quickly.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So to reiterate, the missions i think are best are...
  Downtown dust up
   Gauntlet
    In the dark
   Shootout
    Caravan Heist as Defenders
    Ambush as Attackers
