Weathering makes me moist...

Necromunda Terrain goodness!
Nothing brings a piece to life like great examples of natural elements (or unnatural elements) enhancing the paint process. If anything its also a great way to get some really weird colours added in.

DIY Battlefield. Final stages. weathering and games

So I knew this was going to be a labour of love but this has gone on for a fair old time!

DIY Battlefield, third stages

I made a fair amount more progress on the Snow board One of the main things that I see whenever a Snow board is referenced is the disparity between blue and grey tinting to the snow.

Normally when you see these boards completed they always have a very grey tint to them, and that's not necessarily the look that I would expect to have for a field of snow.

See the picture, blue sky, dark shadows on the snow.
You'd expect blue with ice, not so much with snow.

I ran a couple of testers to see if I could identify which look I wanted most across the whole board.

DIY Battlefield, second stages

So this has taken a fair amount of time, but mainly due to this being stop-start. Doing this all in one go would be far easier, less mixing stuff, less building etc.
I started with the divider section as a tester. this should help me see how things work and how the actual process would work.

DIY Battlefields: Laminate flooring?

So I’ve been wanting a decent gaming table for some time so I’ve been through the wringer for what to really pick.
You have a number of options.
  1. Battlemat + Table + Terrain
  2. Custom tables with storage.
  3. Single board battlefields
  4. Multi-board

Just Do it! The Process of Painting Pt3: A tool to help.

So, right now, think of how much you haven't painted. Lots? Uncomfortably lots? Me too.

Its a slog, it might not be for you, it shouldn't be for you. Often it just is.
One tool I use - Google Keep (all images from the web version).

Dark Mechanicus Thrall-Knight

It's finished! After having this black object hovering over my Dark Mechanicum's heads every time they march to war I thought it was time to finish.
Xi-112 will hunt.
This was not as challenging a task as I'd expected.

Weekly Progress: Sons of Horus Rhinos and Squad + starting on the Knight

Quick one this week. I managed to get a lot of Sons of Horus churned through including these 2 boxes. Sadly, they aren't true to the period of the Heresy, but you gotta make do sometimes.
Lovely boxy-boxes.

Weekly (non) progress; Total War: Warhammer

This week is a light week....
I generally split my time between my PC, and my painting desk. After spending time with my family, I generally have 2-3 hours a night to whatever is needed.
Total War: Warhammer is one time sink at the moment.

Just Do it! The Process of Painting Pt2

BIG BATCH PAINTING BABY! I love a tip-list.

With my own burning advice in my ears, I realised the best way to get over a painting ‘hump’ is to target it in the best way, by chopping a chunk out of it. Solution: Batch painting.
In reality, on any scale, all painting is batched. Even on a single miniature you are trying to paint a single colour across multiple areas of that one piece. Rather than switching colours for each leg, pauldron, weapon, you paint all of the colours of the miniature at each level. Paint the base, paint the metals, paint the detail.

Weekly progress; ALL THE SONS OF HORUS!

So I lucked out bigtime. This is the latest acquisition to the fold. An acquisition that DOUBLES my Sons of Horus army, and likely trebles the amount of resin in my army.

Arvus Lighter Conversion

I call it the 'Bug'.
That might be because its a 'bugabout' to get from A-Z, could be the mandible-like cabin,  could be because its small and flits around the place, but for whatever reason, when I look at this thing I think 'Bug'

So while having a look at ways to expand my Mortalis set I realised that I liked the idea of a landing bay and the associated debris and things that would come with it (and will look to get the Forgeworld one). Central to any landing bay however is something landed! Here is my Mechanicum Shuttle, come Arvus Lighter, that I'm halfway completed.

Dark Mechanicus of House Skellos

Like Scrapcode up inside yer, finding an entrance where it can, Scrapcode up inside yer... (Baboo Yagu thanks for that). Here is the current force.

Convert all the things!

All I wanted to add today was a gif showing all my converted Thralls, all 40 of these converted beauties.

Weekly progress; Sawing Realm of Battle boards. Sons of Horus Tactical Squad, Castellax and thralls.

This week, I've fallen in love with POWER SAWS!
A friend of mine requested some work for a project of his, whereby he was populating the inside of the tile of battle with actual scenery. Neither he nor I had the capacity to remove sections of the tile without cutting in from an edge. CUE POWER SAW. The realm of Battle board moulds are almost an inch thick in some places so heavy duty is needed. We were able to take the top off with a conventional saw, but the detail removal was important.

Just Do It! The Process of Painting Pt1

This week I wanted to address what I've found to be my own worst enemy sometimes, and I feel it could also apply to many fellow gamers too. The actual process of Painting.

5000+ points of Traitor Sons of Horus! (WIP)

7 Hq choices , 4 man terminator command squad, 4 man regular command squad, 40 Tactical marines, 15 odd Veteran Tactical marines, 10 Heavy marines (now 15, oops!), 10 Assault Marines/Reavers, 5 seekers, 5 Melta support troopers, 3 dreadnoughts, 10 Justaerin, 2 Rhinos, a Phobos and a Dreadclaw.
That’s what I’m now up to, having won a great auction for 25 marines, and associated bits so I managed to successfully arrange all of the army. A grand total of 106 bodies to throw at my foes. These are all now either using Mk5 heads, or have a topknot bare head, or an archaic helm. Peppered throughout are around 30 sons of Horus shoulderpads, some converted combat kilts, lodge medals on strings, topknots and as many older generation armour marks as possible.

Zone Mortalis Ship Bridge

Zone Mortalis is awesome, a great environment and atmosphere, try it! My Zone Mortalis complement of tiles is currently sat at 7 official (6 painted) 6 unofficial painted. I still wanted a bit of a focal area, or target to aim towards. Hence a ship bridge.
